AQUABIOPRO-FIT in the Top 50 for bio-based innovations
AQUABIOPRO-FIT in the Top 50 for bio-based innovations
This EU commission report identifies the 50 most significant bio-based innovations for the next 5-20 years. The work conducted in the AQUABIOPRO-FIT project is contributing to these innovations which are driven by advances in life and biological sciences and technologies, and the use of these technologies to produce bio-based products and services.
Bio-based innovations can enable us to use natural resources more sustainably, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, protect the environment and climate, ensure food security, and maintain international competitiveness. This portfolio of top 50 bio-based innovations covers on the one hand cross-cutting technologies and approaches, enabling many different applications, on the other hand innovation areas or solutions to challenges, which may be enabled by different technologies or approaches. Together with a policy and innovation ecosystem analysis and four bio-based innovation scenarios for Europe in 2030, the study provides strategic knowledge for policy makers, innovation stakeholders and society.
AQUABIOPRO-FIT is categorised in the subfield of ‘Sustainable exploitation of novel feedstock’ that focusses on using side and waste streams, pre-treatment novel feedstock. Our project is contributing to the innovations by researching how to up-concentrate proteins peptides, lipids and minerals from fish heads, bones, and skin. The AQUABIOPRO-FIT project was among more than 40 other BBI-funded projects that were also included on this high-profile list.
